Legwork Studio recently completed this animated music video for the Portland based band Alameda.

“Alameda’s video for the track New Leaf has truly been a labor of love for us. We started the project nearly two years ago as a way to explore new animation techniques, specifically digital rotoscoping over 3D animation. The goal was to combine the hand-made feel of painting with the perfection of 3D camera movement and environments.”


Nice behind the scenes studio profile of Swiss based indie game developer Sunnyside. Looks like they have a talented team, covering traditional 2d and 3d animation, game design and development.

Great work from Golden Wolf, a London based animation studio and sister company of I Love Dust.

Giant Ant, the Vancouver based motion studio who over the past few years have proven to be one of the best in the industry (in my opinion), have just launched a new reel. Packed full of their work which raises the bar both technically and aesthetically, this reel also sets a mood with its emotive music and subtle sound fx. A true achievement for a ‘showreel’, which in general just blast you in the face with dubstep and quick edits.

This is a beautiful piece (and a huge technical achievement) from directors Elliot Dear, Yves Geleyn with Hornet inc. for the John Lewis Christmas campaign. From the press release: ‘The innovative combination of animated techniques involved in creating it are unprecedented. The marriage of traditional hand-drawn 2D animation with stop-frame model animation creates a tangible world full of texture and detail that conveys the honesty behind the John Lewis Christmas message.’ Watch the process video above to get a sense of the amount of work that went into this, check out the finished piece below.

I love this MTV bumper from illustrator James Jarvis and animator Richard Kenworthy. I can’t find any info on the project, but it seems so consistent with how so many skate spots are filmed (as far as angles and movement) that I’m guessing there was some reference footage that may have been used for rotoscoping or timing. Either way, it’s awesome.
