Simon Fiedler – Droplets


Simon Fiedler created Droplets as his graduation movie at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz.

This being a blog about process, I thought his description of the piece as particularly poignant.

DROPLETS is a movie about ideas. But it’s mostly a movie about the feelings, when you have no idea. Oppression, disorientation and fear can be paralyzing, but are often a very important element on the way to the perfect idea. The movie DROPLETS shows this feelings in an experimental way.

A favorite moment of mine that I thought really captured the concept well was at 1:39, with the cables strangling what I imagine to be an idea that is trying to take flight (excuse the pun).
